Inside Chiang Mai: Sri Lanna National Park
The Sri Lanna National Park does not provide a lot of scenery apart the Mae Ngud Dam. The Mae Ngud Dam (or Mae Ngat Dam) is a man made reservoir built in the 70's. There is a power station on one side generating electricity for the city of Chiang Mai. There are floating houses (very simple bamboo raft with a wooden house and straw thatched roofs) approximately 5 km inside the reservoir. The floating houses are accessible by motor boats which are waiting on the shore. The boat ride takes 15 to 20 minutes to reach the bungalows. An overnight trip in the winter (cold) season is memorable! But it can be chilly at night.
A recommended trip to the lake is by sit-on-top kayaks, and there is one company in Chiang Mai organizing this.
